In 1960 Baxter left Hollywood to live on a cattle station in the Australian Outback with second husband Randolph Galt; she chronicled the arduous experience in a well-received book, 1976's "Intermission: A True Story."
Was initially cast in All About Eve (1950) because of her resemblance to Claudette Colbert. Miss Colbert was first signed for the role of Margo and the idea was to have Eve visually turn into Margo.
