Charismatic Claude Rains is, in my opinion, one of the finest actors never to have won an Academy Award. A stage actor since his childhood in England, he was an instructor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts & had Laurence Olivier as a pupil.Short and without conventional movie star looks, he had a mesmerizing stage presence and a distinctive voice that kept him steadily employed in Hollywood for many years.
Whether he was playing treacherous Prince John in The Adventures of Robin Hood, sympathetic Dr. Jacquith in Now, Voyager, or The Invisible Man, you can guarantee the character was well-portrayed.
