She says about meeting her foster son, "I was mooching around Rome, when, for no reason, I had this compulsion to turn around, and there was this little boy, just looking at me. He stood staring. He was about nine, I guessed. I couldn't speak much Italian. He couldn't speak much English, but words weren't necessary...his sad eyes reached out to me. And as I walked over and took his hand, I remembered with a flood of emotion that a fortune-teller had predicted that I would meet a young boy in Rome and that he'd play an important part in my life." After some time together, the boy led her to his "home" - an institution for abandoned children. She learned his name was Silvano Rampucci and, although he and the others were well looked after, she was so moved by their plight that she vowed to be a parent to at least one - Silvano. She became his foster parent and, over the years, benefactor to more than 30 children.

Jeremy Brett passed away in 1995; unable to attend his memorial service in London, Stefanie sent a representative with the following statement statement she'd written:

"I am happy to be counted as one of Jeremy's friends...for, indeed, I loved him, too! He was a prince; sometimes a princess, but always among the crowned heads of theatre and film! Among his sterling performances was one of his best roles: that of my friend. He was my cheerleader, and I miss him more than I can say. Good night and good-bye, my prince."
